David Huffman to teach STEM and physics

Everything you need to know about David Huffman as a teacher might be summed up when asked about his teaching style and philosophy: “I learned early in my career that students will move the world for an adult who loves and believes in them! So, I always put relationships first in the classroom and focus on reaching students where they are.”

After teaching science for 15 years in public school (including coaching Science Olympiad), Huffman brings his “relationships-first” approach to JPII to teach physics and Introduction to STEM which utilizes our new STEM lab. Like many teachers, Huffman was inspired to teach by one of his teachers who taught high school physics. His family moved to Greenville prior to his junior year. At the invitation of his physics teacher, he joined the cross country team and he also began to really enjoy physics. By the time he graduated, he knew that he wanted to be a physics teacher. “When I received the Teaching Fellows scholarship, I knew what I was called to do. I wanted to make that type of impact on my students’ lives,” he said. “Seeing the ‘a-ha’ moments and sharing my love of science is so much fun. I just want others to see how much fun science can be!”

Huffman utilized his scholarship at North Carolina State University where he received a bachelor of science in science education with a concentration in physics. In his free time, he likes to spend time with his family, watching anime, playing video games, growing plants in his garden, and going to the beach.
