Summer Update – August 12, 2020

School Starts in 1 Week!

The first day of school for all students is Wednesday, August 19. This will be a half-day that starts at 8:00 a.m. and ends at 12:05 p.m. Students should bring their general school supplies (copy paper, facial tissues, etc.) on the first day. Please familiarize yourself with where your pod is located (some have changed including 9B and 10D) and the drop-off/pick-up entrance/exit associated with your pod on the updated campus map. For students who are being picked up, please have a sign in your windshield with the student(s) last name(s) so that dismissal goes as quickly and smoothly as possible.

To create an account and order lunches starting on August 24, click here. Orders can be placed up until 12 noon the day before and lunches come individually packaged and labeled with the student’s name.

Bus Service

Bus service from the Washington and New Bern areas will start on the first day of school. Pick up in New Bern is at Saint Paul’s from 6:00-6:10 a.m. and in Washington at the old Food Lion parking lot on 264 from 7:00-7:10 a.m. On full days of school, drop off in the afternoon in Washington will be around 3:45-4:00 p.m. and in New Bern around 4:45-5:00 p.m.

Parking Permits

Students can request a parking permit by filling out this form with their parent/guardian (this is an online form that requires student and parent signatures so it may be best to complete the form on a phone or tablet). There is no fee for the permit. Students are reminded that parking at school is a privilege and failure to adhere to the rules (found on page 20 of the handbook) can result in the revoking of student parking privileges.

Drivers Ed

Carolina Road Driving School will be offering drivers ed at JPII from 8:00 a.m.-2:00 p.m. on Saturdays from September 12 to October 10. The cost is $350. The registration form and payment are due by September 4 to the main office.

iPad Pickup for Remote Learners

Students who will start the year with remote learning can pick up their iPad at the school main office on Tuesday, August 18 from 10:00-12:00 and 2:00-4:00.

Mass Ministry

It’s not too late to let Fr. Magee know that you would like to help with parts of the Mass. If you would like to be in the choir, be a reader, and/or be an altar server (must be Catholic), please fill out the Mass Ministry Interest Form. If you have questions, you can email him at frmagee@jp2highschool.com.

Donated Face Coverings

11th grade parent Denise Donica has graciously donated several face coverings in JPII colors. Students who need one can see Mrs. Warren in the main office. If you would like to order one, email Mrs. Donica at denisedonica@gmail.com. A donation is appreciated but not required ($8 has been a suggested amount, you can Venmo her at @Denise-Donica).

Summer Reading

Students will be responsible for their summer reading works as some of their first grades in the first quarter.

Spirit Wear

If you have placed a spirit wear order with E.B. Sports, please be aware that adidas did shut down during the pandemic which has caused a backup in fulfilling orders. Therefore, E.B. Sports may or may not have the item you ordered in the color and size you ordered in stock and therefore your order may be delayed.

2020-2021 Student-Parent Handbook
