Charlie Harvey Joins JPII as Director of Development

JPII is proud to welcome Charlie Harvey as our first full-time director of development. Harvey comes to JPII after a 20+ year career in teaching as well as coaching soccer and swimming in the Pitt County Schools system. He has been named the North Carolina High School Athletic Association Conference Coach of the Year 17 times and is a two-time North Carolina Coaches Association Region III Coach of the Year. Harvey has also taught at East Carolina University and was the head men’s soccer coach.
Harvey is excited to be a part of the JPII family. “I look forward to working with a solid team of individuals and families dedicated to education and success,” he said. When asked what interested him in becoming the director of development for JPII, Harvey said, “having watched the development of JPII for the past several years, I’ve yearned to become a part of its growth. As a coach and teacher, I feel it’s important that programs and teams develop in a way that they can become self-sufficient. I would like for our students, parents, faculty, and staff to work together as a family for the collective good. I feel JPII will continue to mature into a very strong school and I look forward to being a part of this process.”
Throughout his career, it has been Harvey’s experience that parents and siblings enjoy being a part of a family member’s activities – and this will be his approach to development at JPII. “Most people I’ve surrounded myself with enjoy lending a helping hand for their child’s interests. I plan to reach out to our students, parents, and alumni to offer them the opportunity to be a part of the school’s future success in many different ways.” Those opportunities include traditional JPII fundraisers like March with the Saints, the fall barbecue plate sale, and the return of the blueberry sale in the spring. He also plans to introduce new ideas based on parent and student feedback.
Harvey is a two-time graduate of East Carolina University having earned both his bachelor of science in health and physical education as well as his master of arts in education. In his free time, he enjoys spending time with his wife Margaret and their children.
